Hey, Bern!

"Heybern" is named in honor of my Godfather who was a Captain in the Air Force. Uncle Bernie was my father's youngest brother and died when his plane crashed into the Sea of Japan in 1969. God bless you, Uncle Bernie, and God bless all who have served and serve our country, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

About Us

We are located about 30 minutes north of Albany, NY.

Heybern believes that the Labrador Retriever can excel in many venues: the show ring; the hunt; agility; obedience; and most important of all, family companion. Our family has owned Labradors since 1984, and have been actively participating in breed competition, obedience, agility, hunting, rescue, and junior showmanship since 1995. Our breeding goal is to produce a Labrador with sound mind and body, true Labrador type, and the temperament and trainability to succeed in whatever role his or her family chooses.

Our Havanese are joyful family members, and have similar temperaments to our Labradors . We got our first Havanese (Fire) in 2003 and have been enamoured with the breed since. These wonderful little balls of hair are outgoing, amusing, and totally loveable. They are non-shedding and for many people hypo-allergenic. As breeders, we are committed to a full spectrum of health clearances. Clearances are not always the priority even with some prominent Havanese breeders.

Our puppies are bred to be family pets first – they are all raised with lots of socialization and love.  We don’t have a kennel – all of our dogs live with us in the house.  Most puppies born are not destined for show and breeding. We carefully select prospects and are committed to finding the best possible homes for the rest of the litter. If you are looking for a pet, you will get one with generations of health clearances.

We have spent a lot of time researching our foundation stock and participating in all of the above activities so that we would have the best possible knowledge to better serve the breed and the families of our puppies.

We only breed a few litters per year, and occasionally we have a young adult or older dog available. We provide stud service to approved AKC registered bitches with appropriate clearances.

A special note on the "Havana Silk Dog". It seems a small group of Havanese Breeders has split off and created the "Havana Silk Dog" and a Havana Silk Dog club. Their claim is that their AKC registered Havanese are somehow more Cuban and more healthy than other AKC registered Havanese. Heybern does not endorse the Havana Silk Dog concept or the Havana Silk Dog Club. Havanese are Havanese.
